It might be a good idea, but you surely don't "need" it as others have already proved. People have dyno'd over 700 hp, at the rear wheels no less, with stock internals. No need for a built motor at 500 rwhp. And just because the engine may have over 100,000 miles doesn't mean that the engine is weaker. The engine internals do not weaken over time. Some parts like bearings and rings will wear, and if the engine is too worn you'll eventually begin losing compression, but you don't hear of people throwing rods just because their engine got old. A healthy 100k engine will dyno those numbers all day.
